One Batter One Pitch
The next installment in Rocky Collins' saga is about business, baseball, family and fun
WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Energy, determination, creativity, humor, and the support of family and friends enable Kevin “Rocky” Collins to overcome some bad breaks, daunting new business challenges, an armed mugging, and a little of his own "middle-age craziness," and to help a couple of Boston entrepreneurs turn around two companies, start a creative new independent baseball league with very unique rules and equipment, open a sports bar, and partner with a magnetic black minister to build a "Life Training and Development Center."
The sequel to "An Informal Boston Education," One Batter One Pitch, (published by iUniverse) is Michael Connelly's update on the life of Kevin "Rocky" Collins, whose frenetic and hilarious career, social, and romantic missteps delighted readers first time around. Collins is a wisecracking, ball-playing, weightlifting, and beer-drinking young Boston CPA who with the help of a good woman and promising new job finally has his life under control—at least for a while.
Now approaching middle age, frustrated with limiting age-related physical issues, and feeling increasingly out of tune with current American culture, he gets his career back on track by helping those locally-renowned venture capitalists fix a couple of struggling mid-size manufacturing companies, while also helping found this new Action-B Baseball league. Rocky and his teammate co-workers find plenty of ways to fend off the unavoidable stress and periodic long hours with frequent humor. Our protagonist Collins inspires and entertains readers with his unrelenting drive and determination, intelligence and wit, and ultimate commitment to be the best he can be.
(Note: One Batter One Pitch received four out of five stars from Foreword Clarion, with the following summary comment: “The novel gives readers a wild ride grounded in truth and gritty fact. Anyone who faces the doldrums of middle age and appreciates the Boston attitude, baseball, weight lifting, and a glimpse at the movers and shakers in corporate America will embrace Rocky and this novel.”)
