Of course it’s fine that the Sox won tonight, and Wake pitched great…but:
*29 runs over the last 8 games = 3.6 runs/game—against some very ordinary pitchers.
*That lineup tonight was, of course, hamstrung by: Pap @ .203; Bailey @ .190; Kottaras @ .133 (They oughta let Wake hit, and DH for this lost soul. Do they buy him his own bats, or does he have to borrow one from Tek? Sometimes he looks down at the bat like he’s thinking, “What’s this big long piece of wood I’m holding?”) That’s a full third of the lineup collectively hitting well below the Mendoza line. I sure hope that tweak Youk felt in Pawtucket turns out to be nothing. Tito, you have to move Ortiz down in the order.
*The productive Pap got the good results generally throwing only about 94MPH—probably helped by the contrast with Wake. He seldom hits that overpowering 97 any more, which could be a problem at times, even if he is now 11 for 11.
*Yet another shortstop error, even if it did turn out harmless this time.
*Matzaka!!! on Friday. I need to find a Florida bar that does not have the baseball package. I’d rather be water boarded than watch.
